Montana Roving Trips through
the Bob Marshall Wilderness
Chinese Wall Trip>> North Fork Fly Fishing>>
Flathead Trip>> Scapegoat Trip>> Dearborn Trip>>
Our shorter roving trips are five days and the longer ones are seven days. Some of these trips use two or three different camps and some trips make loops so that we don't cover the same area twice, giving you an opportunity to see as much country as possible.
To book a roving trip you need a minimum of 6 guests and a maximum of 10 guests per trip with usually 4 or 5 crew members. Cooking is done under an open fly (tarp), as weather is usually nice this time of year. Sleeping arrangements are tee-pee tents with Thermarest pad (provided you bring one). You also supply your own sleeping bag and personal duffel, which must weigh less than 35 pounds. Rain gear is also your responsibility and you don't want to come without it! All meals, camp equipment, tack etc. are provided by us.
At each camp we have at least one layover day to explore, take some beautiful trail rides, or possibly fish if the area provides this. Some of the areas we go through such as the North Fork of the Sun River or the Flathead River provide excellent fishing opportunities.
Moving days are very busy days for the crew, as we break down camp and pack it up on our horses and mules. Then head down the trail. Some of these moving days we travel as far as 15 or 16 miles to our next camp. Then unpack the animals and set up camp again at our final destination for the day. Because of the busy day an early wake up call is given, as it is very important to get an early start. Guests may participate as much or as little as they like in the moving process. Packing of your own duffel is all that we need you to do but if you choose to help more we can line you out with any number of jobs and the help is appreciated. After your duffel is packed you may choose to explore for a couple hours on your own as it usually takes us a while to break camp down and get the horses loaded up. Or you may want to find a nice sunny spot and catch a short nap.
We offer a number of different roving trips that cover many, many miles of the Bob Marshall Wilderness. North to the Chinese Wall is a popular spot; west to the Flathead river and south to the Scapegoat Wilderness are also covered. Each camp turns to an old friend and each trip a new adventure.
